Purpose: Globetom is looking for a highly motivated, individual to join our Software Engineering team as a configuration specialist. The successful individual will be responsible for supporting the managed services team with various configuration projects, including the testing of their configurations, and supporting the deployments of configuration projects. The successful individual will perform configuration tasks on proprietary Globetom tools, and will undergo extensive training in order to understand and use these tools. Important Information: Level: Intermediate Location: Centurion (Hybrid) Reports to: Senior Support Engineer Team size: 3 Industry: Telecommunications Requirements and Experience: A minimum of 3 - 5 years’ experience in development with a configuration specialisation.Degree or relevant Diploma in Computer Science, or related field.Specialised knowledge and hands-on experience in system configuration (essential).Strong working knowledge of SQL-based databases (essential).Experience in testing and validating system configurations (essential).Experience in business analysis and analytics (essential).Good understanding of the Software Testing Life Cycle (STLC) (important).Telecommunications industry knowledge or experience (advantageous).Competencies: The ideal candidate will showcase the following behaviours: Analyse and process information in order to find solutions.Quick to acquire new knowledge and skills.Tolerate stress and remain composed when dealing with pressure.Focused on meeting deadlines.Produce high-quality work through meticulous attention to detail.Organised and methodical when planning tasks.Driven to action.Persists through difficulties.Collaborative and engaging with others.Roles and Responsibilities: Develop software applications in a team environment using a variety of development languages.Participate in workshops to determine overall functional design.Detail design and documentation of modules assigned. Design review and assistance to be provided by senior software engineers, principal software engineers, and practice leads.Construction of modules.Perform proper unit testing on software modules developed before handing over software to Validation Teams for formal acceptance testing.Assist with the composition of testing plans and schedules.Troubleshooting software issues.Participate in code reviews and quality assurance activities.Assist with the assessment of code quality of more junior resources.Participating in estimation discussions with the product team.Work closely with more senior software engineers to improve a product's functionality.Develop timely and innovative solutions.Change code to make it more efficient.Assist in the maintenance of existing software applications and components.Solve problems independently. Identify problems, research potential solutions, and implement the solution. Explain the solution to someone else.Work on multiple projects at once.Manage time effectively to complete projects on time and meet expectations.Collaborate and communicate with others.Conform to the Globetom Software Engineering Process, which includes, but is not limited to:An agile development process.Use of version control (e.g., Git) for software configuration control.The use of specific coding standards agreed to from time to time.Development of software with a high emphasis on security.Understanding common vulnerabilities and how to protect against them.Developing strong coding practices that prevent bugs from being exploited.Logging of time spent on project tasks using the Globetom Management Information System.Participate in educational opportunities to keep abreast of the latest trends in technology.Any defects discovered on Globetom frameworks or products should be escalated to the product owners and logged to the backlog.Perform 3rd line Software Engineering Support on product/ application defects that could not be resolved by first line and second line support engineers.
